Motivation Monday! ๐Ÿ“ธ @pmbryantstudios More of my fitness mistakes- I told you that there were a lot of them! Skipping meals/not eating enough throughout the day. No, Iโ€™m not here to bash intermittent fasting lol. I actually used IF quite successfully during the shutdown, so I realize it can be a great strategy for some. Iโ€™m talking about intentionally (or unintentionally, in some cases), skipping meals and ignoring hunger cues in an attempt to โ€œsave upโ€ those calories for later, or so you can have a big dinner, or really go crazy at a buffet or a meal out. STOP! ๐Ÿ›‘ If youโ€™re on a weight loss journey, 9/10 times, this strategy will backfire! Why? Because most times, youโ€™ll be so hungry by the time you do eat, that youโ€™ll eat MUCH more than you would have normally, and will end up binging and consuming far more calories at that meal (and subsequent snacking), than you would have if youโ€™d just eaten normally throughout the day. This is also not great for your metabolism. Iโ€™ve been there! It seems like a good idea at the time, but sets you up for a cycle of restricting and binging that is hard to break. The mental aspect of it isnโ€™t great either- Iโ€™d end up feeling so guilty about that evening binge that Iโ€™d resolve to skip meals the next day, and the cycle continued. Besides that, who likes feeling overly stuffed after gorging themselves? Not me! If I was around people when this happened, Iโ€™d be so embarrassed by how much I ate, and you really canโ€™t even enjoy the meal or the company when youโ€™re so focused on stuffing your face because youโ€™re ravenous from starving all day. If this is familiar-itโ€™s not too late to break the cycle. It definitely took some work and a mindset shift, but eating regularly throughout the day made SUCH a difference- no more evening binges, my mood and productivity was better, my sleep was better (because I wasnโ€™t laying down with an uncomfortably full stomach), and my energy level was better.
